The closest airport to Red Ensign is Southampton Airport. However, it does also make sense to check if there are flights available to any of the London airports or to Bournemouth.

Southampton International Airport

The airport is connected to the Red Jet ferry terminal by train (to Southampton Central station) or by taxi and it is only a short journey, the taxi fare is approx. £15 one way.  You can pre-book the Jet Link taxis when you’re arriving at one of the nearby airports (London, Southampton or Bournemouth).

Catching the Train

Our nearest station is Southampton Central.  On leaving the station, catch the free blue Citybus from outside the station building to the Red Jet High Speed Catamaran terminal (where the bus will terminate).

Catching the Red Jet High Speed Catamaran from Southampton to West Cowes

This passenger only ferry takes about 20 minutes from Southampton directly into the town centre at Cowes, the walk from the ferry to the training facility takes approximately 10 minutes

The walk from the Red Jet terminal to the training facility

From Town Quay, where the ferry docks, turn left out of Fountain Yard and walk onto Cowes High Street. Continue up Shooter’s Hill (past Sainsbury’s on your left) and onto Birmingham Road.  At the end of the road (facing the Duke of York pub) bear left into Medina Road. Continue past Shepherd’s Wharf Marina (on your left) and just before the floating bridge turn right into Bridge Road.  Medina Village is a working boatyard almost immediately on the left hand side, go through the gates and you will see the Red Ensign building straight ahead. The walk shouldn’t take you longer than 10 minutes.

Catching the Red Funnel car ferry from Southampton to East Cowes

The car ferry takes about 55 minutes and lands in East Cowes, the ferry terminal is only about a 10 minute walk from Red Ensign which is located on the opposite side of the river.

If you are on foot, walk out of the ferry terminal and turn right at the mini roundabout passing The Ship & Castle pub on your left hand side. At the end of this road you will find the floating bridge across the river which is free for foot passengers.  Once across the river, take the first left into Bridge Road and Medina Village is the first entrance to the left.  Pass through the gates and walk straight ahead until you spot our Red Ensign Signs!

If you come by car, you will need to drive off the ferry straight ahead onto Dover Road, continue straight ahead at the mini roundabout onto Well Road and continue past Waitrose on your left up the hill bearing right at the top into the one way system.  Take the 3rd turning left into Ferry Road, which is another one way street, and this will lead to directly to the floating bridge (chain ferry) that you have to take to cross the Medina river (£2.20 per car). Once you’re on the other side, take the first left into Bridge Road and then left again through the black gates into Medina Village. You will see our Red Ensign signs straight ahead of you.
The drive should only take 5 minutes however you may have up to a 20 minute wait for the floating bridge to come to your side to pick you up!

NB: Instead of taking your car over on the Red Funnel car ferry, it may be cheaper to leave your car in the Triangle Car Park just around the corner from the Red Funnel terminal and then catch the Red Jet Hi Speed Catamaran – especially if you’re only joining our training for a day.  More information on the car parking is available on the Red Funnel website.

Car Parking

If you come by car there is parking outside the building.  However, the clampers are very keen here so you must ask a staff member for a Visitor Card to put in your windscreen, Red Ensign cannot be liable for any parking fines.
