STCW Refresher Training - 5 days

Course Outline

This is the essential Refresher training for the commercial maritime industry in accordance with the STCW Conventions Manila Amendments.

Our five day STCW Refresher Training package provides the practical skills and knowledge to be certificated for the five Refresher modules of training as laid down in the STCW code, these are

Content & Objectives

Personal Survival Techniques includes preparation for sea survival, lifejackets and liferafts, principles of survival, raft management and search and rescue.  The course includes a practical in-water session.

Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting includes learning the risks of fire and their prevention, use of fire fighting equipment, responding to emergencies and fighting & extinguishing fires.  The course includes extensive practical sessions on our on-site fire fighting facitility.

Proficiency in Survival Craft & Rescue Boats includes dealing with emergency procedures, taking charge of a survival craft or rescue boat during and after launch, safe working practices, orders and their relation to shipboard duties, and managing survivors and survival craft after abandoning ship.

Advanced Fire fighting includes incident command, control & communication technique, liaising with Fire & Rescue Services, ship stability & fixed fire fighting systems.

Proficiency in Fast Rescue Boats includes being able to handle an FRB in prevailing and adverse weather and sea conditions, knowing the procedures for righting a capsized FRB, understanding search patterns and environmental factors affecting their execution and knowledge of the maintenance, emergency repair, normal inflation and deflation of buoyancy compartment of inflated FRBs.

Learning Mode

The STCW Refresher Week takes place over 5 days and is delivered through a combination of theory and hands-on exercises with focus on the practical elements of training.

Sea survival theory sessions are taught in the dedicated Red Ensign classrooms. The course also comprises a supervised compulsory liferaft launch, inversion and entry as well as individual and group based swimming activities in a secured area in the river in front of our training premises.

Fire fighting uses real smoke, fire and breathing apparatus along with fire hoses and extinguishers in our purpose built fire fighting training facility. Candidates’ competence is assessed through their active participation during the practical session and with a test at the end of the module.

PSCRB & FRB courses comprises hands-on practical use of FRBs, Life Boats & Davit systems and participation in physically demanding in-water scenarios in and around the Solent waters.The crew’s competence is assessed through their active participation during the practical sessions and theory sessions that are taught in the classroom.

Entry Requirements

You should be over 18 years of age and be in possession of an existing STCW Personal Survival Techniques, STCW Fire Prevention & Fire Fighting, STCW Proficiency in Survival Craft & Rescue Boat, STCW Proficiency in Fast Rescue Boats & STCW Advanced Fire Fighting certificates to take advantage of the reduced price for the refresher training.
