This 4-day course can be combined with the STCW Fast Rescue Boat course held the following week for £1200 including VAT

Course Outline

The aim of the course is to ensure that the delegate can safely take charge of a survival craft or rescue boat during and after launch.

Content & Objectives

By the end of the course participants will be able to

  • Take charge of a survival craft or rescue boat during and after launch
  • Operate a survival craft engine
  • Manage survivors and survival craft after abandoning ship
  • Use locating devices, including communication and signalling
  • apparatus and pyrotechnics
  • Apply first aid to survivors

Please note that some of our specialist courses, like this one, require a minimum number of delegates to go ahead.  If we do not have the required number of people booked, we will notify you at least 10 days prior to the start date of the course and refund your deposit payment.

Also, that the duration could be 4 days (rather than 5) if we have a small number of students on the course. 

Learning Mode

The course comprises of hands-on practical use of Lifeboates and rescue boats with participation in physically demanding in-water scenarios.The crew’s competence is assessed through their active participation during the practical sessions and theory sessions that are taught in the classroom.

Entry Requirements

You should be over the age of 18 and have evidence of the following

  • Certificate of STCW Personal Survival Techniques
  • Evidence of 6 months sea time (those without the required sea time can still undertake the course however a certificate cannot be issued until the this requirement has been met)


The cost of this course is £650.00 inc VAT.

The package price is £818 inc VAT (course plus 4 nights full-board accommodation).


Accommodation is provided onboard the M/V Sea Trident, moored alongside Red Ensign Training in West Cowes. Offered on a full board or B&B basis,  cabins with either shared communal washroom or a shared en-suite (subject to availability). Please check availability by calling us on 01983 294088 or email.

    You must have already completed a '1 day Basic Sea Survival' course in order to attend this course.
