Course Outline

This is the essential Refresher training for the commercial maritime seafarers who hold STCW Basic Safety Training certificates and who want them refreshed in accordance with the STCW Conventions Manila Amendments and don’t hold STCW Advanced certificates.

Our 2 day (we try to run these on an average once a month - subject to minimum numbers) STCW Basic Refresher Training package provides the practical skills and knowledge to be certificated for the STCW Personal Survival Techniques & STCW Fire Prevention & Fire Fighting Refresher modules of training as laid down in the STCW code.

Our Basic Refresher Training allows seafarers to take part in the full STCW Personal Survival Techniques & STCW Fire Prevention & Fire Fighting course, receiving all the required instruction at the reduced price of £370.00.

Content & Objectives

Personal Survival Techniques includes preparation for sea survival, lifejackets and liferafts, principles of survival, raft management and search and rescue.  The course includes a practical in-water session.

Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting includes learning the risks of fire & their prevention, use of fire fighting equipment, responding to emergencies and fighting & extinguishing fires.  The course includes extensive practical sessions on our on-site fire fighting facilities.

Learning Mode

This STCW Basic Refresher training takes place over 2 days and is delivered through a combination of theory and hands-on exercises with focus on the practical elements of training.

Sea survival theory sessions are taught in the dedicated Red Ensign classrooms. The course also comprises a supervised compulsory liferaft launch, inversion and entry as well as individual and group based swimming activities in a secured area in the river in front of our training premises.

Fire fighting uses real smoke, fire and breathing apparatus along with fire hoses and extinguishers in our purpose built fire fighting training facility. Candidates’ competence is assessed through their active participation during the practical session and with a test at the end of the module.

Entry Requirements

You should be over 18 years of age and be in possession of an existing STCW Personal Survival Techniques and STCW Fire Prevention & Fire Fighting certificate.

Learners must be physically fit as the practical aspects of the training can be physically demanding nature in some of the exercises.
