Level 2 Diploma in Maritime Studies

The Maritime sector offers a wide range of opportunities for those who are seeking a career that is closely associated with the sea, ports, rivers and inland waterways. A Maritime Apprenticeship is a job with an accompanying skills development programme designed by employers in the sector. It allows the Apprentice to gain technical knowledge and genuine practical experience, along with functional and personal skills that are both required for their immediate job and for their future career.

Who is the qualification for?
This qualification is aimed at new entrants in the sea fishing industry or at more experienced workers who do not yet have an industry-recognised qualification.

How could I progress?
Candidates could progress onto other qualifications such as the Advanced Level Apprenticeship in Maritime Studies which is due to be made available by the awarding body in 2015.

Training Methods
The qualification is achieved by gaining knowledge and skills within the work place (ie at sea) and is underpinned with knowledge sessions delivered in a classroom environment.

Assessment Method
The qualification contains mandatory units comprising a mixture of learning outcomes, some of which relate to underpinning knowledge, whilst others cover competence. In order to achieve any unit, candidates must demonstrate that they meet the relevant stated outcomes and demonstrate the required knowledge and understanding. This will be achieved through a balance of observations carried out by the training consultant and workplace evidence produced by the candidate.
