Maritime Studies Level 2 Certificate

This level 2 certificate will give you an overview of the maritime industry alongside the knowledge and practical skills in Navigational Watchkeeping, Vessel Ropework, Anchoring and Mooring, Maritime Safety, Vessel Construction and Stability, Maritime Security and basic STCW safety training. You will gain the skills to work as a deck rating on a ship and after completion of the required sea time, an Able Seafarer.

In the future you could move on to an Apprenticeship in Maritime Occupations, become an Officer of the Watch and in time, take command of a vessel as a Master Mariner. Most importantly you must have an enthusiasm to pursue a career at sea.

How will my progress be assessed:

A variety of assessment methods will be used.

Hours

Full time attendance (30 hours per week) is required , although the learner may have a number of trips on vessels to familiarise them with the sea environment.

What will it cost:

16-18 learners receive full funding
19+ learners are subject to government funding
